Surrender

'Surrender' is a popular word in new age spaces.

As overused as it is, it's an important concept to learn.

Nobody likes to accept defeat. Or feel they've given up a battle they're set on winning.

But true surrender is a giving up.

The good news is not giving up on anything meaningful.

When you surrender, you’re giving up on all that is meaningless. You’re giving up on the illusion that the mind is in control; and that you can manipulate the world according to the ego's will.

Many people have succeeded in the world through the will of the ego.

But are these people any happier? Have they reached eternal bliss?

If anything, they have more problems and reasons to feel threatened. All the material security they worked so hard for can be taken away at any moment.

The truth is, that nothing that is of value can be threatened or taken away from you. If it can make you feel insecure, it's not essential to you.

Nothing real can be threatened.Nothing unreal exists.Herein lies the peace of God— The opening passage of A Course in Miracles

Your needs are met no matter what.

Can you trust that the universe is your safety net - that by being alive, you are loved and supported at every waking moment? Can you trust that the universe will provide for you if you rest in its hands - that it will help you fulfill your wildest dreams if you let go of control?

It’s our God-given right to be happy. We created this fantasy world where life is all about sacrifice, pain, and suffering. We created this world where unwell people and relationships are normal. And that freedom is limited to weekends and paid vacations.

This is not life. This is prison!

We’re so accustomed to this way of living that we think it’s natural.

But anything that goes against peace, love, and harmony isn’t a reflection of how nature created us.

Look up in the night sky. Are any of the stars trying to compete with the other? Is the moon trying to prove its beauty? Is there a neediness to life above you?

No. The sky just is. Suffering exists because we resist what is. We suffer when we feel there’s something wrong with the world. We suffer when we need to control, improve, and manipulate.

The universe is perfect. The hand that created it knows what it's doing. To think that there is a flaw with how it’s designed is pure hubris and arrogance.

The only thing responsible for all the abnormalities in the world is the ego’s delusion that it knows what it's doing. Have you ever been around people who justify greed and corruption? Have you witnessed how insane they are?

Suffering happens when a spiritual imbalance is caused by its inhabitants.

We've been asleep so long that we made the world a living hell.

Hell is not some afterlife you go to after you die. If you're living in a world where people are suffering, you are already living in hell.

If there's any reason for suffering, it's an alarm clock telling you to wake up. It's alerting you that there is more to life than what your ego is tricking you to believe.

We are all connected to the same source. When one person awakens, it creates a chain reaction for more people to awaken too.

The more awakened beings there are, the more balance and harmony we can experience on earth.

Do you want to experience heaven or hell? Love or fear? It doesn't matter who you are. You are serving either one of the two.

To surrender is to let go of suffering.

Humans have this fetish for their suffering. We say that we don’t want to suffer and yet we cling to our pains like an addiction.

We go to therapy to try to resolve our childhood traumas. But many sessions can pass and we can still be talking about the same old shit that happened to us 10 years ago.

I’m not saying therapy doesn’t work. Nor am I not saying you shouldn’t process your emotions.

But sometimes the ego can creep up and masquerade self-help as ‘healing’. When we keep bringing up past hurt again and again, are we really healing?

Sooner or later, you have to drop the stories in your head. When you’re holding onto outdated narratives, you’re not living in reality. You're under the spell of deceit and trickery.

Reality is in the present moment. The present moment is the only place that exists.

The mind will come up with anything to keep you caged in insanity. It will yack like a defense attorney as to why your suffering is valid; how that person did this very bad thing to you that justifies your resentment; and why there's so much wrong with your life.

We think that violence only exists in war and abuse towards others. Little do we know that we are practicing violence when we perpetuate our suffering through our minds. Our hearts are crying for us to stop. But we continue to inflict pain on ourselves. We’ve been so desensitized in ways we can be vicious and savage that we mistake it for who we are.

The mind is the source of all suffering. Once you let go of the stories in your head, the ego will lose its lifeline. Suffering will stop because you're not trying to make sense of it all and control it all.

That’s what surrender is: to let go. To drop the narratives of your past. To stop seeing the future as your salvation. To start living by what is without hampering on reality.

Surrendering is taking a deep and satisfying exhale; knowing that everything will be in perfect harmony once you stop identifying with fear.

The more you let go, the less you feel the need to fix yourself or others. The easier your life becomes when you stop identifying with falsity.

Surrender and you won't have to do anything.

When you surrender to life, you won't have to exercise rigorous effort. You won't have to fight against anything or anyone. You won't have to be in a constant battle with the world.

All you have to do is be. To allow life to come to you instead of the other way around.

This begs the question: once you surrender, does that mean you do nothing? Does that mean you just lay on the couch and be a passive observer?

There’s a divine intelligence that’s living through you. It knows when to take action and it knows when to rest. It knows when to speak and it knows when to keep quiet.

If your body feels like resting, non-action is what’s needed at the moment. If you’re not getting any messages from the universe to do anything, don’t.

By the same token, if there’s a surge of energy within you that wants to create something or engage in activities, trust that. If there’s an inclination to be around the hustle and bustle of the world, see where that feeling is trying to take you.

Your mind will try to go against this uncertainty and tell you that you're doing everything wrong. There will also likely be pushback to those around you.

This is where you may need a little bit of blind faith for yourself.

Let your intuition be your compass. The more you surrender to being, the easier it will be for your intuition to speak to you.

Isn’t it more liberating to live in not knowing? As opposed to pretending you know what you’re doing and trying to keep up with appearances.

The surrendered life is a beautiful life. Live from this space and you change in the next few years.
