Intuition
Sometimes you have to laugh when humans champion ‘rationality’.
In 2021, scientists calculated the universe to be 13.7 billion years old.
Just last year, new research suggests that the universe may instead be 26.7 billion years old—nearly twice as old as previously believed.
How long until we realize we can’t quantify the unquantifiable?
There’s no question that scientific discoveries make life easier and more sensible.
But too much reverence for logic also leads to a shallow existence.
There’s only so much you can see from the vantage point of the mind. There’s only so much you can experience when you’re seeing the world through logic and reason.
The disconnection between the rational and the mystical.
Because we live in such a rational society, our culture is removed from the mystical aspects of life.
We don’t notice that everything is written everywhere. We don’t see a universal language of our most intimate experiences in all living things.
If you study the patterns of the sky and link them to the patterns of your psyche, you get astrology. You get numerology if you study numbers and use them to understand your life themes. You get the tarot if you study symbols and apply them to your story.
Ancient cultures cherished these subjects. Astronomy and astrology were inseparably linked when humans were still in touch with the rhythms of the universe.
Along the way, the rational mind took over and placed it in the category of pseudoscience. There’s just not enough ‘evidence’ to claim its reality.
Astrology is now reduced to daily horoscopes and memes of why Geminis are the worst. The tarot is portrayed as a fortune teller in a circus tent with a crystal ball and a dark prophecy.
And numerology? There’s nothing to say other than the Pythagorean Theorem is more important to learn in school.
Because who would be dumb enough to believe these things? The advice is generic and can apply to anyone.
And synchronicities? Three different people telling you the same thing? That’s just a coincidence.
Says the hypermasculine voice in your head.
It’s easy to live within the confines of the mind. It’s known. It’s predictable. It has its labels and categories all laid down.
But underneath all the mental concepts that keep reality glued to its center is fear. The mind doesn’t want to dabble with mystical truths. Deep inside, it knows that if it does, everything it knows to be true will be questioned.
My friends, that’s the purpose of a spiritual awakening.
The role of mysticism.
Esoteric teachings like astrology help us see the world from a multidimensional perspective. It helps us understand that there are more layers to Creation than what convention knows.
Planets are not just planets. Numbers are not just numbers. Symbols are not just symbols.
Every particle in the universe contains a code of wisdom. If you look closely enough, angels are all around whispering to you.
When we hear the word ‘teacher’, we usually think of our Math teacher from high school. Or if there’s a spiritual slant, we think of a guru or a yoga teacher.
In reality, there’s only one teacher. And it speaks to us in ways the mind doesn’t know.
The teacher can indeed be a human being. But the teacher can also be the Sun, the Moon, Mars, or Venus. It can be the Number 9. It can be the stray cat that visits you every afternoon. It can be a song that plays at random.
Or it can be the moment right in front of you.
However the teacher manifests, you can only receive its wisdom if you’re open. You can only receive the transmissions with a certain level of trust and humility; if you can admit that you don’t know what you don’t know.
That’s why any preconceived notions of ‘truth’ can only be held loosely. Once upon a time, humans thought the world was flat. Once upon a time, physicians prescribed cigarettes to patients. Both sound horrifying today, yet were true at one point.
Who knows what else we could be wrong about?
Mysticism as a universal language.
Many people think that advice from mystics is too general; a big reason why they don’t ‘believe’ in topics like astrology.
The quality of the reading could depend on the reader and the one being read. Also, everyone goes through the same things. The more intimate they are, the more universal it is.
Our experiences may be unique and individual, but in the grand scheme of humanity, the themes are no different. Our challenges, hopes, and dreams are all encoded in our ancestral memory. When you trace our roots, we all come from the same source.
Therefore, it isn’t helpful to see ourselves as separate beings. If we can embrace the universality of our experiences, astrology or other similar systems can impact us profoundly. That is if we allow them to.
The mystical world and the intuition.
These mystical languages are not here to give you a step-by-step plan. They’re here to tell you what you already know—to remind you of why you’re here and what you came into this world to do.
In a society that offers cookie-cutter advice to everyone, the mystical arts are here to cut through the bullshit and get to the heart of the matter.
They are here to help you trust your intuition.
Your intuition is beyond the mind. It’s more ancient than the mind.
Like the mystical world, the intuition is of the unknown. A degree of trust is needed to cross the threshold.
Your intuition is always guiding you.
Have you ever been offered a job that pays well and has all the benefits, but didn’t seem right for you? Have you ever been on a date with someone you were attracted to but something just felt off?
That’s only a few common ways your intuition speaks to you. A lot of times, you can’t explain why you feel what you feel. You know or sense something without reason.
It’s not uncommon to overlook it. The reason why it’s hard to catch is because we were never taught to trust it. Not only were we not taught, we were discouraged to even go there with ourselves. We’re taught to lead a predictable path—to fear for our future, financial security, and social standing.
But you can’t shift closer to alignment with your soul with all these fears bogging you down. Your soul is, by nature, fearless. Sooner or later, you have to drop them, march to the beat of your drum, and allow your soul to take the lead.
But first, the mental noise has to dial down.
Humans have a hard time being still. They need to do something. Anything. As long as it’s not nothing. Nobody wants to be left alone with their thoughts.
That’s why we fill our days with as many activities as possible. That’s why we have our addictive behaviors. That’s why we’re always seeking monetary success and intimate relationships. We’re afraid of the void. The silence may be too much for us.
While we don’t want to confront our deep-seated feelings of lack, the opposite is just as true. We don’t want to feel free and sovereign. We don’t want to feel whole and complete. We don’t want to feel powerful and dynamic.
Because what would it mean if our deepest desires come true? What would it mean if everything designed to keep us small, gets burned down to the ground? What would that mean if the small ego self were to shatter?
Our lives would look radically different from how they are now.
Humans are naturally complacent. Sometimes the pain of staying the same is going to need to outweigh the pain of change.
But you don’t have to wait for an earth-shattering moment to happen. You don’t have to wait for a midlife crisis to alarm you that something needs to change.
You can take agency now.
But first, you have to quiet your mind.
While mystical teachings are helpful, a spacious mind is the basis of an unshakeable inner core.
A meditation practice is almost essential for anyone starting a spiritual path. In India, they call it sadhana—the yogic term for “daily spiritual practice”.
An extensive morning routine isn’t necessary. The simpler it is, the better. If meditation only lasts for five minutes, that’s perfect.
This is preparation for the ultimate meditation: your entire waking life.
The more space you can cultivate in your inner life, your intuition can be louder and clearer.
But like anything, it takes practice to follow through with it. This is where human design can be helpful.
Your intuition is your bridge between the practical and the mystical. It’s a moment-by-moment response, rather than a carefully laid-out plan.
You know it’s your intuition if it’s guiding you to an unknown land. There’s excitement, fairy lights, and wonder. Equally present are uncertainty, terror, and doubt. All must pass through the cauldron to get to the other side.
When the path in front of you disappears and you feel you have no safety net other than the invisible forces guiding you, you know you’re headed in the right direction.
I’ll end this post with a quote from one of my favorite artists:
“If you feel safe in the area you’re working in, you’re not working in the right area. Always go a little further into the water than you feel you’re capable of being in. Go a little bit out of your depth. And when you don’t feel that your feet are quite touching the bottom, you’re just about in the right place to do something exciting.”— David Bowie
Your life is one big creative act written by the One Hand. Cherish it and enjoy the ride.
